This familiar-made-fantastical rendition of the classic ballet, set in the 1970s in Vermont, delights audiences with its many local references, including a Maple Sugar Fairy instead of a Sugar Plum Fairy, loggers instead of Russian dancers, winter birds instead of tea, The North Wind and leaves instead of flowers, and a moose instead of reindeer pulling Marie’s sleigh. The van will depart Westview Meadows at 1pm.

Come along on an adventure into the depths of a northern winter with Anders Morley, winner of the 2021 National Outdoor Book Award for travel writing, as he presents This Land of Snow, the story of his four-month journey through the wilds of northwestern Canada on cross-country skis. More than just a tale of adventure, This Land of Snow is a meditation on the coldest season and on the approach of mid-life, which Booklist’s Brenda Barrera has called “a captivating memoir” and “an eloquent ode to the harsh beauty of winter.” Morley will discuss and share anecdotes from his journey, read from his book, and show photographs from along the way.

From 1793 to 1961, Rokeby was home to four generations of Robinsons — a remarkable family of Quakers, farmers, abolitionists, artists, and authors. Today, the Robinson family’s home is a National Historic Landmark, designated for its exceptional Underground Railroad history. Rokeby is among the best-documented Underground Railroad sites in the country.
