Few North American birds can evoke in us the wild, visceral, and pleasing sensation that comes in the company of a Common Loon. Their success story is an example of citizens and scientists working together in conservation. A Biologist from VCE will be here to speak about the current work they’re doing on behalf of loons.
We hope you’ll join us for an evening of great music, great food, great fun! With entertainment provided by Andy Pitt. Please be sure to RSVP by Friday, August 9th, 2024 to Carrie Barrett at [email protected] or (802) 223-1068 ext. 4.
Sarah Graves from the Magic Bean Farm will be at Westview Meadows to teach residents how to make bracelet corsages. Using flowers grown on her farm you will create beautiful, wearable works of art that you can show off to family and friends.
While the world’s top athletes compete in Paris, we will host our very own mini-Olympics! There will be challenges of both athleticism and wit, with individual and team competitions, and a staff relay! Choose one or all to compete in. After the fun, we’ll have an awards ceremony for all of our competitors.
We will also need cheerleaders on the sidelines, cheering and waving those pom poms!
Cameo Baroque — Leslie Stroud, traverso (Baroque flute); Beth Hilgartner, recorders and voice; Ernie Drown, harpsichord; and Laurie Rabut, viola da gamba — is CAF’s “in-house” ensemble, and specializes in the music of the Baroque era performed on period instruments. Cameo Baroque is dedicated to bringing some less well-known masterworks of the Baroque to audiences.

Take a guided tour of the cosmos with an astronomy presenter. You’ll be introduced to the stars, planets, and constellations that are visible in the night sky. There will be time to explore the museum exhibits at your leisure followed by a planetarium show at 11:30am.
Museum admission is $19.00 and includes the
planetarium show. This must be paid to Carrie at the front desk in advance.
We have all heard amazing stories of
survival that rendered us awestruck. But
too often, we don’t realize that there is a
wealth of information to learn from
people who make it to the other side of
life’s most daunting challenges.
In Extreme Survival author Michael J.
Tougias first captivates the audience by
chronicling harrowing survival stories
and then discusses the lessons learned.
Tougias uses slides from some of the
survival events to give the audience an
edge-of-your-seat experience that also
provides useful techniques that we can
all use when faced with adversity or
aspire to achieve a difficult goal.
Tougias has interviewed over 100
people who survived against all odds,
and researched many historical figures
who have achieved the near-impossible.
He supplements their stories with a
handful of first person accounts from
some of the toughest survivors in history.
Green Mountain Swing is an all-volunteer, 18-piece big band. They play music from the swing era, when swing was king, as in the immortal bands of Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and others. They also include music from the “bop” and “post bop” periods which followed and throw into the mix many modern tunes and music from the Latin field. You won’t want to miss this fun, fabulous performance!
Eshqua Bog is a botanical wonderland of cold-climate holdovers—small pockets of bog and a two acre fen—from the post-glacial era 10,000 years ago. This preserve contains a diverse array of bog and fen plants: labrador tea, cotton grass, pitcher plants, showy lady’s slippers, larches and buckbean.
For universal accessibility, they’ve installed a 460-foot boardwalk so that more people could enjoy Eshqua’s natural treasures from its multiple viewing platforms and benches.
We’ll bring bag lunches provided by Westview Meadows’ kitchen and have a picnic lunch at nearby East End Park.
